Dr. Lance Forstot is a board-certified ophthalmologist, corneal specialist, and founding partner of Colorado Eye Consultants, originally known as Corneal Consultants of Colorado. He has spent his career dedicated to providing his patients with the most advanced surgical and non-surgical treatment of cornea and external disease-related conditions.
Dr. Forstot completed his undergraduate degree at Princeton University with honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, one of the most prestigious honor societies in the United States. He later received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After completing his medical internship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Dr Forstot spent two years serving in the U. S. Public Health Service as well as, a medical officer with the United States Coast Guard. He completed both his residency in Ophthalmology and fellowship in corneal and external diseases at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
He is the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, including an Honor Award and Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Forstot has served on numerous panels and boards, including his role as President of the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists. He has also served as the Medical Director of Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank for more than 30 years.
Dr. Forstot has served in numerous positions at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, including his most recent role of Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, where he was twice named Faculty Teacher of the Year. He has spent more than 35 years serving veterans as a faculty member at the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Denver. Dr. Forstot has also been a frequent lecturer, author of numerous articles, abstracts, and book chapters, as well as served on a variety of boards and advisory committees in the field of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Forstot has been recognized as one of the “Nation’s Top Doctors” of Ophthalmology since 1981 and by the renowned Castle Connolly “America’s Top Doctors” since 2000. He is a nationally recognized Ophthalmologist and is considered an expert in the subspecialty of cornea by his peers. Dr. Forstot has spent a significant part of his career participating in clinical research and FDA trials to help advance the field of Ophthalmology in both surgical and non-surgical treatments and procedures and was one of the first surgeons in the country to perform corneal crosslinking for the treatment of keratoconus.
When not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, having dinner with friends, going to concerts and Broadway shows, and watching sports, especially the Denver Nuggets
