Dr. Shane Nau is a board-certified ophthalmologist. His areas of expertise include comprehensive medical ophthalmology, glaucoma management, and cataract surgery. He perform routine and complex cataract surgery, as well as minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).
Dr. Nau completed his undergraduate and Master of Science at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2015 and later received his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2019. Next, he completed an internal medicine internship in 2020, followed by ophthalmology residency in 2023—both at the University of Colorado. Throughout training, Dr. Nau received numerous honors, awards, and grants including the President’s Scholar Award, Graduate Experiences for Multicultural Students (GEMS) Scholarship, Bioscience Research Grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and a Biological Research and Training Grant.
During medical school and residency, Dr. Nau has published several peer-reviewed research articles on unique clinical cases, an updated review of glaucoma management, and original research using a large Colorado-based database on cataract surgery outcomes in patients with autoimmune disease. He is currently working with the University of Colorado leadership to implement an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) protocol designed to protect the eyes and vision of critically ill patients.
Dr. Nau has robust volunteer involvement including service at both Denver Health and Stout Street—where he worked to form a partnership between these two practices to better serve the local homeless population in Denver. He also served as the Coordinator for DAWN Ophthalmology—a free resident-run ophthalmology clinic. While at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, he helped improve medical education via time spent re-designing an evidence-based medicine curriculum while sitting on the Curriculum Reform Committee. He has also served as a long-term mentor at both the Denver Rescue Mission and at Breakthrough Kent Denver.
Dr. Nau is a native of Colorado and grew up in Littleton—a place he has always called home. He is honored to continue his practice of ophthalmologic care while caring for his local population. In his spare time, Dr. Nau enjoys spending time with his growing family, church, and spending time outdoors. He also enjoys amateur carpentry and gardening.
