Colorado Eye Consultants proudly announces that two of our distinguished ophthalmologists, Dr. Lance Forstot and Dr. Robert Fish, have been recognized by 5280 Magazine as Top Doctors in Colorado for 2025. This prestigious recognition underscores the exceptional expertise and commitment to patient care that have defined Colorado Eye Consultants for over four decades, solidifying our position as a leading ophthalmology practice in the Rocky Mountain region.
The 5280 Top Doctors designation represents peer recognition of the highest caliber, with physicians nominated and selected by their colleagues based on clinical excellence, professional reputation, and contributions to the field of medicine. For Dr. Forstot and Dr. Fish to receive this honor reflects not only their individual achievements but also the culture of excellence that Colorado Eye Consultants has created and maintained for over four decades.
Meet Dr. Lance Forstot
Dr. Lance Forstot, founding partner of Colorado Eye Consultants, brings an unparalleled depth of experience to corneal and external eye disease treatment. Since establishing the practice in 1982 as Corneal Consultants of Colorado, Dr. Forstot has consistently demonstrated the innovative thinking and surgical precision that define exceptional ophthalmologic care.
His educational foundation at Princeton University, where he graduated with honors and earned membership in Phi Beta Kappa, followed by his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, established the academic rigor that has characterized his entire career. After completing his residency and fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Dr. Forstot has dedicated himself to advancing the field through both clinical practice and research.
Dr. Forstot’s recognition extends far beyond Colorado’s borders. He has been acknowledged as one of the “Nation’s Top Doctors” of Ophthalmology since 1981 and by Castle Connolly as “America’s Top Doctors” since 2000. His contributions to ophthalmology include serving as President of the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists and Medical Director of Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank for more than 30 years.
The University of Colorado School of Medicine has twice named Dr. Forstot Faculty Teacher of the Year during his tenure as Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology. His commitment to giving back to the community extends to his 35 years of service to veterans at the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Denver.
As one of the first surgeons in the country to perform corneal crosslinking for keratoconus treatment, Dr. Forstot continues to pioneer innovative approaches that benefit patients throughout Colorado and beyond.
Meet Dr. Robert Fish
Dr. Robert Fish represents the next generation of surgical excellence at Colorado Eye Consultants. His specialized expertise in routine and complex cataract surgery, particularly involving previous cornea transplantation and refractive surgery complications, has established him as a referral destination for the most challenging cases in the region.
Dr. Fish’s mastery of advanced corneal transplantation techniques, including Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK), Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK), and Penetrating Keratoplasty (PKP), positions Colorado Eye Consultants at the forefront of corneal surgical innovation. His additional expertise in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) ensures comprehensive care for patients with multiple eye conditions.
Following his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors and earned election to Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society, Dr. Fish completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. His selection as Chief Resident and subsequent fellowship at the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Institute in Aurora demonstrate the trajectory of excellence that defines his career.
Dr. Fish’s participation in the American Board of Ophthalmology certification process as both an oral board examiner and curriculum developer reflects the trust his peers place in his expertise. His service on the board of Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, including his tenure as President, and his election to the American Eye Study Club underscore his leadership within the ophthalmologic community.
